Hawaii's lifeguards are some of the most skilled and least recognized watermen and waterwomen in the world. On Guard was my attempt to change that. I concepted the series, wrote the full directorial brief, developed the episodic framework, designed the interview treatment, and directed all four episodes shooting across O'ahu and Kaua'i in four days with a crew of two. I also conducted every interview and shot all photography on location. The goal was a true documentary approach: intimate, cinematic, and character-driven. The kind of storytelling that makes you forget you're watching a brand video. Each episode profiles a distinct member of the Hawaiian Lifeguard Association, with its own thematic focus and narrative arc, unified by a consistent visual language and editorial rhythm. The series strengthened OluKai's relationship with HLA, received exceptional feedback from brand leadership, and was produced at a fraction of what a traditional production would have cost.
